windswept

What is it that makes people seek greener pastures?

From time to time this wind, the Andalucians call "el viento del levante" blows over the lands...
Bringing with it the soft call of other lands and other lives.
It itches, it stings, it calls and it lures.
It carries desert sand, droplets from riverbeds and seeds of exotic flowers...
It makes my gypsy blood crawl and boil.
Making me nervous and twitchy, and hungry to jump onto a train and let it carry me wherever...

Life's good.
Why then, this call of the wind?

Serious?

Today I looked at the video below while working, because the title of an article I had to read was "This is serious", which brought up memories of this song.

We watched the video "en troupe":

The sheet...

The dramatic look...

The naked torso...

The sheet over the chair...

The naked torso....

The ice sculptures....

The naked torso...

The "rough" intermezzo with rock guitar and chainsaw sculpture cutting...

The mount of sand....

Laughed out loud (in my case until tears flowed down my face)....
Was she really serious when she made it?

...for you to judge...

hehehe

*meeeeh*

Sheep...

Everywhere I went today were sheep.
Sheep in pastures.
Sheep in gardens.
Sheep standing on wind swept dykes.

Sheep

Sheep looking pensively into the nothingness.
Sheep frolicking.
Sheep eating grass.
Sheep not eating grass.

Sheep

Sheep in the sunshine.
Sheep in the rain.
Sheep pooping.
Sheep "making nookie".
Sheep asleep....

And then I came back into the city...

And saw that there isn't much difference to the countryside...

loafing

I was at the bakery this morning, and as I watched the bakery lady cutting the bread in the loaf cutting machine, I couldn't help but think:
Aren't we all in a way loafs of bread?

Not that we're all created out of flour and yeast, but in a metaphorical sense...

We are all loafs of bread, that consist of layers and layers of slices, all tucked together.
For the onlooker a loaf, but deep inside; sliced.
Some slices you share with the world, or with a small group of people, your loved ones for instance. The other slices are there, but invisible for everybody but yourself.

The complexity of humans is something that strikes me time after time.
Just when you think you know people, out pops a new layer that you were unaware of.
And what's worse...sometimes....when you think you know yourself, a new layer resurfaces...

Layering isn't a bad thing.
In a way it protects us from harm.
Making sure our inner core remains solid and untouched.
With every experience we have the outer layers create more protection, as others crumble under the pressure. However, the layers can also merge into a solid loaf, which can create an extra protective seal.

Yet, remaining a loaf full-time also prevents other people to see the layers.
And keeps us isolated.

I guess the key is not to turn into a mount of slices...nor into a full loaf...but to remain a loaf with slices on top.

(did I mention this bread is darn tasty?)

Lost?

I find myself lost in a world that seems to be lost, sometimes.
Not because I'm crazy or other wise detached from the things that surround me.
But simply because it doesn't seize to baffle me.
Yesterday I saw a documentary on British pop bands from the '50's until the '70's...and once again it struck me;
What the hell happened to young people??
We seem to have merged into sheep somewhere along the line.
Without ideas and thoughts of our own, simply following the masses and not questioning the world and people around us.
It seems like philosophizing about life, critique-ing and especially taking action have slowly but steadily sunk to the bottom of the barrel.

I can't help but look at it and feel a strange feeling in my stomach...
